Paid Internships
An internship can be a terrific opportunity for you to take advantage of. The problem for some people though is that they need to get a job over the summer rather than take on an internship. So they lose out on that educational opportunity because they can’t afford it. What you may not realize though is that there are plenty of paid internships out there you can apply for. They can offer the same opportunities for you and at the same time you will make some money.
It is important to realize though that there is more competition when it comes to paid internships. It is only reasonable to understand why a person would want to get paid for the work instead of doing it for free. Many employers realize this and they know by offering a paid internship they can get the best qualified applicants so it is really a winning relationship for everyone involved.
The amount of money that you get paid for an internship will vary. It may be an hourly rate or a stipend for the term of the internship. You may need to report this income on your taxes and in other cases it is exempt. You should discuss that matter with your tax preparer. Do expect to get more than minimum wage with most paid internships though. You have to remember that their staff is going to be giving you plenty in return so it shouldn’t all be about the money.
There are plenty of ways to find information about paid internships. Talk to the counselor of your high school or your college. Look online too so you can find those paid internships in your area that also fit into the type of work you want to pursue. You want the match to be well suited for you so you can really benefit from the experience.
There are more paid internships out there than most people think so get busy looking for them. You need to get your application submitted on time. You may be required to provide letters or recommendation or other information as well. Have all of this ready early so you wont be crunched to get the applications in on time.
