Description
On behalf of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Science and Research (BMWF) the Erwin Schrödinger International Institute for Mathematical Physics (ESI) is offering a number of Junior Research Fellowships for young researchers (PhD students and young post-docs) to participate in scientific activities of the Institute, to collaborate with visitors at the Institute or to work with individual members of the local scientific community. The fellowships are awarded on a competitive basis for a period of 2-6 months each
For students who come from: Worldwide
Want to go to: Austria
Disciplines:
- Natural Sciences
- Physics
- Mathematics
- Astronomy
- Informatics & Information Science
Duration
Applications for shorter or longer periods may be considered in exceptional cases.
Benefits
The rates of support for the duration of the award will be set at the following levels:
- Applicants from Austria: PhD Students EUR 1600/month, Post-Docs EUR 1900/month

There are two deadlines for applications each year, one in April and one in November.
Applications (including a CV, list of publications and an outline of proposed research) should be clearly marked ‘Junior Research Fellowship Application’ and sent to the Administrative Office of the Institute by e-mail ([email protected]), fax (+43-1-4277 28299) or mail (Administrative Office, Erwin Schrödinger Institute, Boltzmanngasse 9, A-1090 Vienna, Austria). Two letters of recommendation should either accompany the application or be sent separately to the Administrative Office of the Institute.
Additional information
- Applicants working in Austria and receiving salaries from Austrian universities and/or European research institutions or research councils should clearly state their financial circumstances. Support for such applicants will normally be based on the additional expenditure incurred in holding the Research Fellowship.
- An important aspect of this scheme is to encourage women to enter research careers in mathematics or mathematical physics, and part of the funding of the programme is specifically earmarked for this purpose. Qualified women candidates are therefore particularly invited to apply.
