Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • University teachers in Bolivia whose employment contract allows the continuing payment of their salaries during an in-service training stay abroad
  • University degree: for doctoral fellows, the Maestría
  • Excellent academic achievements
  • Age limit: 38 years max., exceptions up to 50 years possible

Duration

Master’s degree: up to 2 years, Doctorate: up to 4 years, Postdoctoral studies: up to 12 months, Research stays: up to 24 months, Scholarships are awarded by the DAAD together with the Universidad de Aquino de Bolivia for one year each. Applications for extensions are examined by the DAAD Selection Committee.

Benefits

  • Monthly part-cost scholarship of 100.- euros from the DAAD.
  • The Universidad de Aquino de Bolivia (UDABOL) continues to pay the scholarship holders their salary for the duration of the scholarship. The DAAD recommends that single (unmarried) and married scholarship holders travelling without their family receive a total of at least 800.- euros or better 1,000.- euros from UDABOL and that married scholarship holders travelling with their family receive at least 1,200.- euros or better 1,300.- so that they can cover their cost of living in Germany
  • The DAAD pays the health insurance, accident insurance and private liability insurance costs.
  • Preparatory German language course in Bolivia for scholarship holders from the fields of Humanities, Law, Business Administration and Economics, and related subjects, from the DAAD
  • German intensive course of between two and six months in Germany (postdocs up to four months as necessary), including accommodation and living expenses during this time
  • Language course for the spouse in accordance with the DAAD Guidelines
  • Flat-rate outward and return travel allowance in accordance with the DAAD Guidelines
  • Study and research grant of 460.- euros per year from the first to third year
  • Printing grant for the doctoral thesis in accordance with the DAAD Guidelines
  • For scholarship holders doing a Sandwich doctorate: Outward and return travel plus the subsistence costs of the German and Bolivian tutors
