Slovakia Universities: Scholarships of the Government of the Slovak Republic

The provision of development aid of the Slovak Republic (SR) in the area of education takes the form of the award of scholarships of the Government of the SR that are consistent with the conditions approved by the Government Resolution No.344/2010 of 25 May 2010 for developing countries and for Slovaks living abroad, the Government Resolution No. 625/2008, of 17 September 2008, for academic year 2011/2012.

The official range of scholarship positions available is annually notified through the diplomatic offices of the SR abroad.

  • Under the development aid for the developing countries , the official offer is sent to the ministry of foreign affairs of the relevant country in accordance with the approved breakdown of countries and scholarship places in particular academic years.
  • Under the aid to Slovaks living abroad, the offer is sent to the official compatriot representatives according to the approved breakdown of countries and scholarship positions in relevant academic years.

Applicants for scholarships of the Government of the SR are informed of the basic eligibility conditions that include:

1) Selected study program within an approved list of supported courses of study specifically for developing countries

  • Economy and management (3.3.1 to 3.3.25)
  • Physical sciences (4.1.1 to 4.1.39)
  • Ecological and environmental sciences (4.3.1 to 4.3.5)
  • Architecture and civil engineering (5.1.1 to 5.1.7)
  • Construction engineering, technologies, production and communications (5.2.1 to 5.2.60)
  • Agriculture (6.1.1 - 6.1.17)
  • Forestry(6.2.1 - 6.2.6)
  • Veterinary sciences (6.3.1 - 6.3.11)
  • Water management (6.4.1 - 6.4.2)
  • Medical sciences (7.1.1 - 7.1.26)
  • Dental medicine (7.2.1)
  • Pharmaceutical sciences (7.3.1 - 7.3.7)
  • Non-medical health sciencess (7.4.1 - 7.4.11)

and for Slovaks living abroad,

2) Study outcomes achieved during the secondary education or prior study.

The award of the scholarship of the Government of the SR for a standard duration of study is conditional upon proficiency in the Slovak language at a required level and the admission to the study in selected course of study by a public university in the SR. To tackle the requirement, the Government of the SR provides a one-year scholarship for language preparation, and, where necessary, also technical preparation. This takes place in the institutions that have been accredited for such preparation. Any arbitrary shortening of the period of study in the preparatory year is unacceptable. The scholarship holder is obliged to keep to the date of starting the study, as determined by school.

The deadline for delivery of the Application for scholarship of the government of SR together with the required attachments for the applicant is 30. May 2011.

It is necessary to send the form of the Application for scholarship of the government of SR together with annexes, through the embassy of his/her respective country through a diplomatic channel to the following address:

The date on the postal stamp is the decisive one. Documents, submitted with delay or applications with documents not being complete, shall not be included in the selection procedure of the commission and shall be returned with no exemption.

Changes in academic programs are permitted only within the selected course of study, within the meaning of the effective System of Courses of Study under the heading the “System of courses of study,” subject to approval of the awarding body of the scholarship of the Government of the SR - Ministry of Education of the SR Science, Research and Sport of the SR.
