Description of British Chevening Postgraduate Scholarships

Chevening scholarships offer an ideal opportunity for young, high-flying graduates not only to study their chosen subject, but also to meet and network with their peers in the unique learning atmosphere that the UK provides. The ultimate objective is to build a network of friends of the UK, who will be future leaders in their countries. Most candidates are selected by the British Embassy or High Commission, joined by sponsor representatives if it´s a local partnership scholarship. Candidates for UK partnership scholarships are selected jointly by the FCO and the co-sponsors, in consultation with overseas Posts.

Eligibility for British Chevening Postgraduate Scholarships

Chevening scholarships are prestigious awards and highly sought after by people from all over the world who want to make a difference. A typical successful applicant is:

  • A graduate with the personal, intellectual and interpersonal qualities necessary for leadership. These include:influencing and communications skills, leadership track record, networking ability, ambition, plans for the future, intelligence, academic potential, drive, self management, strength of character, integrity, interests outside work
  • Motivated to make a career that will take them to positions of leadership in their own country within 10 years of their scholarship
  • Committed to networking to find global solutions
  • Able to use their studies and experience in the UK to benefit themselves, their countries and the UK

Applicants must:

  • Have good English Language skills and an IELTS score of 6.5 (or its equivalent) for admission to postgraduate courses
  • Meet the academic requirements for their courses of study

Benefits of British Chevening Postgraduate Scholarships

Chevening Scholarship is a full scholarship covering tuition fees up to £14,000. On top of the tuition fee, we will provide a significant amount of funds to cover living expenses, international air-ticket and other miscellaneous expenses up to a total of around HK$350,000 (Hutchison Chevening Scholarships).

In order to apply for a Chevening Scholarship you should meet the following general conditions:

Condition 1 - you must not be a British Citizen (although dual nationals will be considered on a case by case basis).

Condition 2 - you must have at least one qualification at degree level or equivalent.
