It is organized by the I.S.E.O INSTITUTE, a non profit institute, ( I.S.E.O stands for Institute of Studies on Economics and Occupation) since 2004. For its VIII edition, which will take place in Iseo (Brescia, Italy) from 18-25 June 2011, it will features several Nobel Laureates in Economics and some outstanding international economists. Confirmed lecturers of the summerschool are: Michael Spence, Nobel Laureate in Economics 2001, Dale Mortensen, Nobel Laureate in Economics 2010, Robert Wescott, former economic advisor to US President Clinton, Ha Joon Chang, Cambridge University, Paul Segal, Sussex University Arrigo Sadun, IMF Contents The title of the upcoming edition is ” Global Inequality. Labor markets, Growth and Social Reforms in advanced and emerging countries” The aim of the I.S.E.O. Summer School is that of bringing together a large number of graduate students coming from the most important international universities to improve their knowledge in economics. The I.S.E.O Summer School is reserved to graduate people, no matter if they are still involved in the academic world or if they are already working. Since 2004, the various editions of the I.S.E.O Summer School have been attended by 391 students coming from 72 Countries and 169 different universities in the World. The course introduces to some of the principles of international economy, investigating the role of different countries in the international economic scenario. It focuses on growth, on the strategies and instruments of monetary policy, on the structure and mechanisms of the financial sector, with a particular focus on the welfare state and unemployment. Every lesson includes a theoretical lecture and a debate on the discussed topics. Classes take place in a wonderful hotel conference center in Iseo, Brescia (Northern Italy). The name of the hotel is Iseolago hotel and the website is www.iseolagohotel.it The official language of the course is English. During the week, students familiarize with the Italian culture and language. At the end of the course students will also receive a frequency certificate. Application Conditions and Deadline Young graduates (Master and Phd) will be selected. Criteria for admission to the Summer School are based on curriculum vitae and students preparation to participate in advanced studies on the subject. The admission committee looks for mature, academically motivated students who demonstrate potential for success in a college environment. In order to apply, students have to fill in the application form downloadable from our website http://www.istiseo.org/eng/summerschool2011.asp. The application form should be sent via email together with a personal cv by 25th April 2011 to the Summer School Secretariat: summerschool[ at ]istiseo.org Early application is highly encouraged since enrolment is limited. Fee and scholarship The fee amounts to € 2.200,00 and shall have to be paid by 15th May 2011. The I.S.E.O Institute awards some partial scholarships (please see below in the next chapter). The fee includes: the course and the documentation, full boarding staying in the four star Iseo lago hotel (breakfast, lunch and dinner are all included), trips and local transportation. Personal expenses and any other expense not expressly stated are not included. Accomodation will be in double or triple room at the Iseolago hotel ( 4 star hotel), which is gifted with a wonderful park and a swimming pool. It also has free access to a sport centre, with tennis courts, basket and volleyball fields and many other sport facilities, which can be freely used by all the summerschool participants. ( For further information about the hotel conference centre please have a look at his website: www.iseolagohotel.it) Scholarships In order to allow everyone to take part to such an important course, especially students coming from undeveloped countries, I.S.E.O Institute awards talented students with scholarships amounting to € 1,500.00 also for the 8th edition of the Summer School. Therefore awarded students shall have to pay just the remaining € 700,00. Applying for this scholarship is really easy: the application to the course automatically involves the request for the scholarship so no other document or information is required. Everybody can apply for the scholarship. A special committee will evaluate all the applications and will decide which students to award with the scholarship. This decision will be taken according to the cv, the profile and the academic and professional experience of each enrolled student, together with the motivation to participate to the course.
